Great Expectations

This classic Charles Dickens’  episodic story of good deeds being rewarded and revenge being reaped, is a hard one to transfer to the big screen but the director, Mike Newall has given us a perspective on the vagaries of lives changed by status and wealth. The breadth of the story is massive and the fairytale notion of Miss Haversham never changing out of her wedding dress “how does she wash it?” was made possible by Robbie Coltrane aka  Hagrid playing the part of her solicitor.  There is huge acting talent in the film, so the film becomes, in part, cameo performances, leaving you with a desire to know more. It must have been hard work with the story board and the editing.  The dialects and voices were spot on – the voice coaches were Joan Washington and Neil Swain.
